腦中風病人急性醫療照顧，後續復健治療及長期照護費用都相當可觀。腦中風急性期的醫療費用主要耗用在住院費用，而長期住院個案耗用大量急性住院醫療資源，主要可能是因需要急性後期照護或慢性照護個案佔用急性健保醫療資源，以補足復健或長期照護需求。如能減少長期住院，應可以有效縮短住院天數及急性期治療資源耗用。
