การดำเนินงานของหน่วยสถิติในการผลิตและการเผยแพร่ข้อมูลสถิตินั้น สิ่งที่สำคัญประการหนึ่ง คือการจัดระบบการนำเสนอข้อมูลสถิติ โดยมีการจัดประเภทสาขาสถิติขึ้น เพื่อให้ผู้ใช้สามารถค้นหาข้อมูลสถิติในเรื่องที่สนใจได้สะดวก รวดเร็ว และตรงตามความต้องการ โดยจัดข้อมูลสถิติเป็น 3 ด้าน 23 สาขา ได้แก่ สถิติด้านสังคมและประชากรศาสตร์ ประกอบด้วย 8 สาขา สถิติด้านเศรษฐกิจ ประกอบด้วย 13 สาขา และสถิติด้านทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม ประกอบด้วย 2 สาขา
